Afrobeat Styled Music Poster.

Music treatment assignment of my spunky husband.

Music treatment assignment of my spunky husband.

One of my recent assignments at Tafe has been to come up with a “treatment” for a music portrait. Above is what I came up with. Love the photo of Hayden Hack, but love it even more now. I looked to afrobeat stars such as Fela Kuti for inspiration as well as CD releases such as Ghana Special – Modern Highlife, Afro-sounds & Ghanaian Blues 1968 -1981 and Nigerian Special 1970 -76. I really dig the design of these CD covers. Most afrobeat posters, CD covers etc consist of blocks of bold colours, the person desaturated with a colour wash over them. This is what I was emulating with the above poster.

Hide and Seek – A Composite Image

Hide and Seek

Howdy.

It’s been a long time between posts. I have started my course. I am busy. But oh so INSPIRED! Above is one of my assignments. A composite image. I have never really created a “real” composite image before, but am excited by the possibilities. I have oodles of ideas for other composite images.

I love the fact that you can create a fantasy world and tell a completely surreal story. I am all for photoshop in this regard and am stoked with all the new skills I have. Here’s to creativity in motion. Here’s to taking steps towards your dreams. Create your world. Live it. Love it. x

Beautiful Belly – Pregnancy Photos

We’re pretty lucky that we got these shots at all. This bubba decided he wanted to arrive a little earlier than expected. 6 weeks early to be precise!

Bless this beautiful couple and their gorgeous little man that is happy and healthy and growing wonderfully. Thanks for being so easy going in front of the camera. Now to get some photos of the little man……

Photographic Quotes and Links

The photographer is an armed version of the solitary walker, reconnoitring, stalking, cruising the urban inferno, the voyeuristic stroller who discovers the city as a landscape of voluptuous extremes” – Susan Sontag, On Photography

The Delight Of Seeing is a fantastic photographic blog with posts of everything and anything photographic. Amazing source of information and more importantly, inspiration.

The camera is an instrument that teaches people to see without a camera” – Dorothea Lange

Who also is quoted saying:

For me documentary photography is less a matter of subject and more a matter of approach. The important thing is not what’s photographed, but how….. My own approach is based upon three considerations. First – hands off! Whatever I photograph I do not molest or tamper with or arrange. Second – a sense of place. Whatever I photograph I try to picture as part of its surroundings, as having roots. Third – a sense of time. Whatever I photograph I try to show as having its position in the past or in the present. But beyond these three things, the only thing I keep in mind is that – well, there it is, that quotation, pinned up on my darkroom door:

The contemplation of things as they are

without error or confusion

without substitution or imposture

is in itself a nobler thing than a whole harvest of invention”

– Francis Bacon

Inspiration. Lost and Found.

So after my last post I am happy and a little excited about finding my mojo again so quickly. My inspiration, motivation and discipline had gone walk about for a little hiatus only to return just when I needed them most. We embraced warmly and then went inside for bikkies and tea. So in honour of their return this here post is all about inspiration and what inspires me.

Lovely Vision

From the pits of what I think was despair

Overwhelmed by it all

I now find myself

Ecstatic

Small moments of pure

Elation

Just being

Loving

Living

Loving

Life

There is beauty in the everyday

In close to every way

Blinding light

Follows blinding dark

Stop looking

and you will see

My vision restored

If only momentarily.
